How it works

How Crypto Wallet Recovery Works (for Expats in the Netherlands)

A clear, confidential process from first assessment to client-controlled handover—fully remote, in Amsterdam or at another agreed location.

This English-language service is for people and professionals in the Netherlands. Start with a general description, not wallet secrets; a technically suitable case can be handled remotely, at our Amsterdam office or at another agreed location.

Your English-language assignment

From a safe first description to handover under your control

The technical route depends on the wallet and surviving material. The service can be handled in English, while scope, fee and material handling are agreed in writing before sensitive work begins.

  1. 1No commitment and no secrets

    Describe the Netherlands-based case

Tell us the wallet or software, approximate year, device, access problem and what material remains. For an estate, company or advised client, also state your role. Do not attach a seed phrase, private key, password, wallet file or identity document.

Outcome: enough non-sensitive context for an English assessment
  2. 2Usually within 1 business day*

Receive an initial route and feasibility view

We identify the likely technical route, the information still missing and whether remote handling, Amsterdam or another agreed location appears appropriate. If the surviving material does not support a realistic attempt, we stop here.

Outcome: proceed, clarify the evidence or close the enquiry
  3. 3Before sensitive material

    Establish authority and written scope

We verify identity and ownership or legal authority. The method, fee, handling route and boundaries are recorded before sensitive work begins. The assignment operates under Dutch law, and an NDA can be signed on request.

Outcome: an authorized assignment with clear Dutch-law terms
  4. 4Chosen for this case

    Use the agreed handover method

The route may be PGP-encrypted communication, our encrypted upload environment, an appointment in Amsterdam, another agreed handover location or case-specific shipment. We ask only for what the technical work requires and use copies where possible.

Outcome: the minimum useful material received through the agreed route
  5. 5First technical view usually in week 1*

Test the recovery route in a controlled environment

The first checks establish whether the evidence supports a credible search. We report findings that change feasibility, scope or the next decision; duration depends on the wallet format and search space rather than on whether the meeting was remote or in person.

Outcome: restored access, an evidence-based continuation or a justified stop
  6. 6Remote or at the agreed location

    Return access without taking custody

Handover follows the route agreed for your case. You open the recovered wallet and move the assets to a destination wallet you control. Cryptoherstel does not receive, hold or transfer those assets for you.

Outcome: access and asset control remain with you

* Timing begins when we have the information or usable material required for that stage. All time indications are estimates, not guarantees.

Prepare for an English assessment

Explain the case first; arrange sensitive material afterwards

Context that helps us route the case

  • Wallet, app or software name
  • Approximate year it was used
  • Device and operating system
  • What changed or stopped working
  • What files, backups, phrases or devices remain
  • Whether you prefer remote handling, Amsterdam or another agreed location
  • Your role if this is an estate, business or professional case

Arrange these only after review

Do not attach, email, post or bring these yet

  • Seed or recovery phrase
  • Private key
  • Wallet password
  • Wallet file or unprocessed backup
  • Identity or authority documents
  • A phone, drive, computer or paper backup without instructions

Technical information

Identify the surviving material, not just the cryptocurrency

The wallet, file, device and remembered information determine the recovery method. These English guides explain the main routes before you submit an assessment.

Responsibility in a Dutch assignment

Your decisions and our technical role stay separate

You remain responsible for

Authority, instructions and the assets

  • Keeping original devices and records until an agreed handover
  • Approving the written scope, route and any material change
  • Choosing the destination wallet and moving the assets after recovery
Cryptoherstel is responsible for

The defined technical recovery work

  • Working on the minimum material required by the agreed method
  • Explaining findings that affect feasibility or the next decision
  • Returning access through the chosen route and closing the case as agreed

Access restored

We arrange the English-language handover; you verify access and transfer the assets yourself.

A longer attempt remains justified

Work continues only when the evidence supports it and you approve the work within the written scope.

No viable recovery route

We explain why the attempt stops. If access is not restored, no recovery fee is due.

Practical questions

Practical questions for English-speaking clients in the Netherlands

Can the assessment and recovery case be handled in English?

Yes. The first assessment and technical case can be handled in English. The scope, fee and handling method are agreed in writing before sensitive work begins, and the assignment operates under Dutch law.

Do I need to travel to Amsterdam?

No. A technically suitable case can be handled fully remotely. The Amsterdam office is available by appointment when you prefer face-to-face contact or when agreed physical-material handling makes an in-person route useful.

Can my lawyer, notary or adviser be involved?

Yes. By prior arrangement, a suitable meeting, verification step, material handover or final handover can take place at a lawyer’s, notary’s or adviser’s office. For an estate, business or professional case, tell us your role during the first assessment so the required authority can be established before sensitive work.

Can work take place at my home or another agreed location?

Yes, when the technical, security and practical requirements allow it. The arrangement is agreed case by case and can include a meeting, verification, material handover, suitable technical work or final handover.

Can I ship a device or physical backup?

Yes, after the case has been assessed and the handling method agreed. We provide case-specific packing and dispatch instructions. Do not send a device, paper backup or other physical material before we confirm what is needed and how it should be handled.

How is sensitive material shared?

Only after verification and a written agreement. Depending on the case, material can be transferred through PGP-encrypted communication, our secure encrypted upload environment, an agreed in-person handover or an agreed shipment. We work with copies where possible.

When will I know whether recovery has a realistic chance?

Once we have enough information, we can usually give an initial view of the likely route and duration within one business day. After usable material has been received securely and the first technical checks are complete, we can usually say during the first week whether there is a credible recovery path. These are assessment milestones, not completion promises.

How long can recovery take?

Some cases are completed quickly. Complex password searches, damaged media, incomplete recovery phrases and legacy wallet formats can require months of work. In exceptional cases, a technically justified attempt may continue for more than a year, but only while the evidence supports a realistic search and the work remains within the agreed scope.

Who controls the wallet and moves the funds?

You do. We restore access and arrange a secure handover; you open the wallet and move the assets to a wallet you control. Cryptoherstel does not receive, hold or transfer your assets on your behalf.

What happens if recovery is unsuccessful?

We explain the technical outcome and close the case according to the written agreement. No recovery fee is due when access is not restored. We also stop before technical work when the assessment shows that a recovery attempt is not justified.
